The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (0GC) was derived from the advanced development of the previous 7-speed gearboxes, such as the DQ380 (ODE) and DQ500 (0BT), which had been used in commercial vehicles from 2010 and passenger vehicles since 2011. One key feature of the DQ381 gearbox was principally aimed at increasing efficiency. Unlike the DQ380 gearbox, the DQ381 was designed to be used in both FWD and all-wheel drive vehicles on the MQB chassis platform, such as the Mk7 Golf  R, Audi S3, SQ2 and Cupra Ateca.  This 7-speed wet clutch gearbox is already an improvement over the previous DQ250 6-speed, in terms of allowing the vehicle to shift more efficiently, and with a smother gearchange due to the closer gear ratios. However, driving a DQ381 equipped vehicle you will know that there are still areas that can be improved, especially on performance modes. With the stock calibration, you may find that gear shifts happen too low in the RPM range, or too high when in sports mode. These can lead to unsmooth driving, or make the vehicle feel too aggressive. You may have also experienced clutch slip when running performance ECU Software. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DRIVE. PROGRESSIVE SOFTWARE As we produce all our ECU and TCU software in house and have access to vehicles through our global network of authorised Dealers, we have been able to test and refine the software for all ECU stages. This means that our “Progressive TCU” software will work with Stage1 to Stage 3 ECU software on 2.0 TSI DQ381 vehicles. You can install Revo TCU software when at Stage 1 ECU, and it will cover you as you progress through the ECU stages without the need to change TCU software. SHIFTING Gearshift points in gearbox D and S modes have been enhanced and matched with Revo ECU Software. Meaning each gear shift will be at the optimal point to give the best possible performance and fastest acceleration. The shifting times have also been improved and made quicker in D, S and S manual modes. Tested on Stage 2 Audi S3 8V we saw an improvement of up to 0.4s on the 0-60mph time from launch over the stock TCU calibration. The 3-step launch control RPM limits have been optimised to offer 3 different RPM points depending on the throttle input 10-30% launches at 2200rpm, 45-79% launches at 3600rpm and over 80% launches at 4250rpm. When at partial throttle, the gearbox isn’t always looking for the highest gear, it holds the current gear longer. Keeping the turbo spooled and the vehicle within the right power band, thus not changing up and down the gears at much and therefore offering a smoother and more enjoyable drive. The ST's impressive low-down grunt and more responsive turbo offer great performance and a lot of potential for those driven to experience its true potential. Close monitoring of the GPF system has been an essential step in finding the limitations and tuning potential of the engines. The consensus is that the GPF not only mutes but limits the engine power, Revo ECU calibration might offer a reason to dispute that.  Enhancing the vehicle with Revo ECU Software gives you much more than just an increase in power and torque. A large part of development is based on drive cycle and driver feedback.  Our calibration doesn’t just give a great dyno curve and peak power/torque figures but also delivers in feel; giving a smoother yet more responsive feel at low RPM/ partial throttle. The Revo SPS Software Switch is also available separately and can be used to quickly switch between performance modes and access the additional Anti-Theft mode.  GPF DEVELOPMENT Rather than simply removing the GPF, and therefore making vehicles illegal for road use, we have been monitoring the effects that running higher power has on them. Our Stage 2 GPF software retains the stock downpipe, factory catalytic convertor and GPF 3, although we did upgrade the GPF back section on the ST development vehicle to give more exhaust acoustics.   Whilst we are not supporting GPF removal, over the months of extensive development, we tested all variations of exhaust setups to determine the effects and restrictions of the stock downpipe and GPF. The conclusion was that although the stock system was obviously going to be slightly more restrictive over a system with no Catalytic convertor and GPF, the actual peak number gains seen on the dyno showed less than a 4% gain through a limited part of the rev range. During the rest of the rev range, the results were very similar.  There is a much more significant restriction closer to the engine; a combination of integral manifold/port/turbine design.  All Revo Stage 2 GPF software is specifically designed for a Stock downpipe and GPF. When you first start your car, the cold oil is at its thickest, producing higher oil pressure when pumped around the engine putting extra pressure on oil seals. As the engine temperature increases, so do oil temperatures. This thins the oil, enabling it to run more freely and better lubricate the moving parts of your engine. Cold Start Protection helps protect engine components by limiting turbo boost based on RPM and oil temperature until it reaches the 80ºC optimum operating level.  TEMPERATURE PROTECTION Exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) are also monitored, adapting the operating conditions (Air Fuel Ratio) to ensure they stay within safe parameters. If EGT's reach a set upper limit, then power is automatically reduced until the engine returns to a safe operating temperature.  EXHAUST OVERRUN The ST already comes with exhaust overrun through its Active Value Exhaust. This has been enhanced by Revo offering a slight variation in acoustics both in sports and track modes. The duration of the overrun has been increased over Stage 1 software.     SWITCHABLE SOFTWARE1 Using an SPS switch you can take advantage of the switch-ability of Revo software. This means air can stabilise and distribute before a smooth tapered transition to the turbo.   FILTER AND HEATSHIELD Ensuring the engine has access to cold air is vital for performance. The Revo heat shield channels cold air from the front intake duct while partitioning the filter from the heat of the engine bay. The Revo Heatshield uses the stock mounting points and rubber mounting bushings to provide an easy and secure installation.   RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT All Revo products are designed in-house and are rigorously tested utilising an in-house 3D printer, latest CAD and CFD programs, hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The Revo intake allows the turbo to run more efficiently, intake a larger volume of air and minimise turbulence to increase both power and torque, as highlighted during controlled Dyno testing. AIRFLOW An overall air volume increase of 50% over the OE part allows for faster and increased airflow. The carefully designed silicone hose has its own support bracket mated to a machined hose fitting, maintaining the correct position during engine movement. A constant taper in the hose ensures a smooth transition of airflow from the air filter to turbo and results in an increase in air volume over the stock part. Further helped by the machined inlet that matches to the turbo inlet for the ultimate in airflow characteristics.   DYNO GRAPH Testing was carried out on a VW Polo GTI 1.8 TSI (6 Speed manual) with Revo Stage 1 Software fitted with the OEM system and then the Revo Air Intake System. With a consistent gain throughout the rev range, the Revo intake offered a peak gain of 20HP at the hubs and 20NM torque over the stock part.
