Having previously achieved impressive results from the previous 1.4 Polo GTI we were keen to get the new 1.8 litre model in for development to create a new range of Cobra Sport performance exhausts. The larger 1.8 litre engine in the new Polo GTI produces 190bhp as standard matched with an impressive 236 lb-ft of torque giving the lightweight Polo impressive performance figures on paper whilst creating an exhilarating drive. The Cobra Sport team were able to reduce the weight of the exhaust system by an impressive 41% over the OEM system with the resonated 2.5” cat back system weighing in at only 9.52kg compared to the original 16.20kg. The de-cat and sports cat front pipes have been enlarged to 3” bore and offer a weight saving of 0.60kg. The new systems benefit from all of the usual Cobra Sport refinements with mandrel bent, TIG welded, grade 304 stainless steel used throughout the systems as standard. As we realise everyone is individual in their tastes for sound and looks, we are pleased to launch an alternative Fiesta EcoBoost exhaust system specially designed to fit within a replacement Fiesta ST style rear bumper and panel to replicate the ST180 look. The performance exhaust systems have been designed to fit from the Catalytic Converter backwards in both a resonated and louder non-resonated version. This allows those in need of some extra drama to opt for the non-resonated system and those seeking a more subtle enhancement to go with the resonated option. With the OE system, on tick over, coming in at 62dB, the resonated option comes in at 70.3dB adding a more noticeable soundtrack. The Cobra Sport systems provide a pitch perfect sound track with a noticeably deeper tone with the resonated cat back recording a sporty 91.3dB on the static 4,000rpm sound test. This testing was undertaken by a dealer in Australia in temperatures of 29.3 degrees celsius and an air density of 93.6%. Independent rolling road testing of the Golf MK7 resonated turbo back system with sports cat front pipe and aftermarket air intake revealed a +40.76bhp (30.4KW) power increase measured at all 4 wheels with the Golf R putting an impressive 270.61bhp (201.8KW) through the rollers. This testing was undertaken by a dealer in Australia in temperatures of 29.3 degrees celsius and an air density of 93.6%. A substantial weight saving can also be achieved with the 3” turbo back system providing a whopping 35% decrease in weight from the Original Equipment version. The styling of the system is finished off with either quad 5” x 3” oval slash-cut tailpipes in stainless steel finish or the upgraded ceramic coated versions.
