With the success of FMINDK30 we took the opportunity to revisit the UP GTI and looked to see if we could improve on the 1.0 TSI air flow to the turbo charger. On investigation we could see that the OEM turbo adaptor was very restrictive and was an area in need for improvement. Therefore, our highly skilled development team got to work designing a solution to maximize the capacity by using our CAD system and physical prototypes. The OEM plastic turbo inlet includes a restrictive ribbed and hollow noise chamber that is designed to disturb the air flow and reduce induction noise, this OEM part has a detrimental effect to the engines performance especially when tuned. For the best possible gains, we removed the chamber allowing us to increase the volume and air flow significantly. Our hose design also has an internal stepped area where it is positioned and joined to the turbo housing, this is to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible from the inlet tract to the turbo. Several different designs and material choices were tested until we arrived with the product you see here. The construction of FMTIA3 is manufactured from reinforced multi ply silicone which is more durable than the OEM plastic pipe and it will also not suffer from heat soak like other similar products available. With its enlarged capacity and less restrictive surface area it routes air directly into your turbo charger and allows a greater volume of air to be compressed, this can have a positive effect on accelerating your vehicle after long deceleration or in between gear changes due to more air being kept within the inlet tract to the turbo charger. One significant feature of FMTIA3 is its compatibility with vehicles equipped with and without the PCV system integrated into the existing turbo intake, the early engines do not have the breather system in place from the fuel tank to the elbow. We supply the necessary hardware to blank of the elbow spouts if its required to fit the turbo inlet adaptor to the earlier engine revision The one way valve and coupler adaptor are also supplied so the elbow can be installed to the newer revised engine. The FMTIA3 is also compatible with the factory air box, however for the best performance results we recommend using our intake systems for your particular chassis application. This is a product which is essential when tuning the 1.0 TSI engine, if its either stage one or stage two tuning we have seen consistent gains from 3-5 bhp depending on the vehicles state of tune. This is a straightforward yet very effective power increasing modification that can be fitted with basic tools and has a typical installation time of around 60 minutes. As with all Forge products it includes a full set of comprehensive installation instructions to make fitting as straightforward as possible. The Forge silicone hoses in this kit have been designed to include an expensive inner liner of modified silicone known as Fluorosilicone. This means the hoses are suitable to be used with either modern long-life coolants, Organic Acid Technology coolants (O.A.T.) or air containing oil mist. When looking at the B58 engine within the M140i/240i/340i/440i engine bay it’s clear that BMW had left some room for modification within the inlet tract, the sound resonator and accordion ribs cause significant turbulence to the airflow causing a detriment to the engine’s potential performance. By removing these, and replacing it with five-ply silicone construction you gain a host of performance upgrades, including: Significant power gain of over 9bhp engine power and 7nm of torque. Improved induction noise. Multi ply silicone construction improves longevity of FMINLH25 over that of the OEM hose. 5 ply silicone construction will be able to handle strain of engine mapping far better than OEM hose. The results below speak for themselves, also with the added benefit of being a very easy component to fit with no specialist tools this is superb, affordable modification for the BMW enthusiast. From the dyno graph shown, performance gains can be expected from 4500RPM to the red line with +9BHP and +7NM of torque at peak RPM. Not only is FMINLH25 a functional improvement, but with it being available in black and red this product really helps to improve the aesthetics of the engine bay. One major difference of FMINLH25 is the diameter of the hose at the airbox end. Usually this is 85mm diameter, however FMINLH25 is 90mm diameter, and uses a silicone reducer sleeve so that it fits the OEM airbox correctly. This increase of 5mm diameter allows the inlet hose to be used with a wider variety of airbox/intake systems while also increasing the volume and de-restricting the flow of the OEM part, This product is a direct fit for the OEM part 13718601682 (just the turbo inlet to airbox section). The kit is a full plug and play solution, with a replacement cast turbo inlet adaptor, CNC machined hose couplers, and a silicone high flow inlet hose. Available in a choice of Black, Red, and Performance Blue, the TIA11 will not only increase your Hyundai’s performance, but it also transforms the look and aesthetics of your vehicle’s engine bay. The size of the inlet elbow has increased by over 170% to maximise the amount of air that can physically flow to the turbo from the inlet tract. The OEM factory alloy cast elbow is small, so we knew that this would be the key component to target as tuners start to increase the boost levels and performance output of the 1.6l turbocharged combustion engine. As well as this, the plastic OEM inlet hose has ribs and steps within the bore, causing detrimental turbulence while disturbing and slowing the airflow. By removing the ribs and steps, the larger Forge Motorsport silicone turbo inlet hose reduces the amount of turbulence over the standard item, enabling better airflow. Why do we use silicone? In the development process we tested an oversized aluminium pipe and found that it started to show signs of heat soak, this had a detriment to the impressive initial power gains. We also found after the third pull on the Dyno, the alloy pipe conducted too much heat on this application and started to decrease the gains. When using silicone, heat cannot be conducted as well, therefore even after six pulls, the silicone hose stayed at a steady temperature and did not decrease the power whatsoever. The inlet pipe fits directly to the factory airbox along with our FMINDK45 performance intake solution. The turbo inlet adaptor improves your vehicles airflow in several ways; designed in a similar way to a conventional velocity stack, it routes the air directly into your turbo charger and allows more air to be compressed due to its larger capacity, this has a positive effect when accelerating your vehicle after long deceleration, or in-between gear changes, due to more air being kept within the intake system. Dyno Results Testing was completed using Performance Remap in Gloucester with their VTEC 4-wheel drive dynamometer, this was to ensure all our data is achieved with results as accurately as possible by an independent tuner. As you can see from the dyno results below, peak power was increased from stock by nearly 7 BHP and 12NM of torque when mated to the OEM airbox and standard factory filter. The best news is that there are significant gains across the entire rev range, meaning that the car will pick up quicker and pull the whole way through to redline. TIA11 also benefits from a 17NM of power gain between 2500 RPM and 3000 rpm, this is right as the power comes in and can really change the feel and power delivery when behind the wheel. To compliment the turbo inlet, it can be matched to our induction kit FMINDK45. As you can see below this gave an increase of 12BHP and a torque increase of 20NM both at peak. These two products really do complement each other superbly both in conjunction, and as standalone modifications. After installing a tuning box, or re-calibrating the ECU with stage one or two tunes, the performance yields can be expected to be a lot higher than the figures stated. Testing on the dyno certainly represents the benefits from such a well-engineered product; this coupled with our Lifetime Warranty is just the reason to choose Forge for your Hyundai’s performance hardware.
