Testing in this way plays an important role in ensuring the highest quality products and delivering the driving experience expected. 3.2 TDCI ENGINE In stock form the 5 cylinder Ford Ranger is an underwhelming experience. The 3.2 Duratorq engine feels significantly underpowered for the weight of the vehicle, and the available torque never really translates into forward momentum. Coupled with a very lazy gearbox and long first gear, there was always going to be plenty of room for improvement. The way in which the power is spread over a broader band really helps to overcome the weakness of the 6-speed box. The vehicle no longer hunts through gears and instead pulls smoothly using the increased and wider spread of torque. The towing experience is also transformed, even fully laden with its 3.5-tonne limit. Revo performance ECU Software also offers unique safety features designed to protect your engine. Temperature Protection closely monitors EGT’s (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) and reduces power until temperatures lower. Fuel consumption and economy also play an important part in the Revo development process. OEM+ INTAKE The Revo open cone Air Intake System for the Ford Ranger improves performance and removes restrictions found in the OEM system. Ensuring your engine can get access to enough air is paramount when increasing power; more air means more power throughout the rev-range. Only Revo Air Intake Systems are specifically designed to work in harmony with your vehicle and Revo Software. Engineered to directly replace the stock plastic intake pipe and filter. This kit comes complete with a silicone hose, air filter and fitting kit. KEY FEATURES Increased Performance Improved Air Flow Efficiency Three Stage Foam Filter with Mesh Stepped Silicone Hose OEM VS REVO When you begin to enhance performance, the restrictive OEM intake struggles to flow enough air, robbing the engine of power. The Revo Air Intake System removes these restrictive elements promoting smoother airflow. OEM+ systems utilise the stock airbox but remove other restrictive parts to enhance airflow to the turbo. Revo Flush Fit silicone hoses mean joins eliminate unwanted turbulence and increase the rate at which air can flow, ensuring maximum performance at any level of tuning. SILICONE HOSE The Revo intake hose is designed to directly replace the plastic corrugated parts. The 4ply silicone intake hose reduces turbulence and internal restrictions. The smooth internal bore results in no loss of cross-sectional area and allows increased airspeed through the intake. FILTER An intake system is only as good as the filter. This kit comes complete with a custom Revo foam filter, supported by galvanised epoxy-coated mesh for strength under load. Revo three-stage foam filters work very differently to conventional paper or cotton-gauze alternatives designed to trap particles on the outer layer. Revo filters trap debris and particles within the foam layers, allowing air to still navigate through. The filter is also reusable. ADDITIONAL FEATURES The Revo hose also keeps the OE PCV take-off location and is supplied with a CNC machined 6061 adaptor which offers greater durability than the stock plastic take-off. The hose clamps supplied with this kit are made of stainless steel. This means they not only have high tensile strength but also will not corrode over time causing a failure. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT All Revo products are designed in-house and are rigorously tested utilising an in-house 3D printer, latest CAD and CFD programs, hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The Revo intake allows the turbo to run more efficiently, intake a larger volume of air and minimise turbulence to increase airflow, as highlighted during controlled testing. LOWERING TEMPERATURES To show the efficiency of the Revo Intake, airflow was measured using our own Ford data logging software. Logging a 3rd and 4th gear pull through the rev range you see the improvements of the Revo Intake compared to stock. The Revo intake manages to hold consistent airflow through the gear change and gives a maximum airflow gain of 16% with an average of 5% throughout the runs. The Revo rear torque mount is designed to eliminate excessive movement, allowing you to reach your true performance potential and get the power down when you need it. Manufactured from only the best materials, our design team worked closely with industry leaders Powerflex to ensure a product that will perform when you need it most. Polyurethane bushes can perform under the most extreme of conditions, ensuring strength and stability under tremendous pressures. Tuned specifically for energy transfer they offer smoother shifts and limited wheel hop, providing you with a better driving experience and increasing the opportunity to use the power your car has to offer. POLYURETHANE BUSHES BY POWERFLEX Powerflex utilises a unique formula of polyurethane, custom-designed to ensure optimum fitment in the machined housings. Polyurethane is also resistant to oil, fuel unlike the rubber used in the OEM mount which can lead to perishing and failure. Using two different custom durometer bushings gives the ultimate balance of performance and comfort. LARGE BUSHING WASHER Designed to sit the opposite side of the large pin and made from 3mm stainless steel, we have added this washer to reduce the lateral movement of the mount. By limiting the lateral movement it reduces excessive force placed on the bushes and allows for a more secure fixing of the mount between the OE plates. Flow forming is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies to enter the wheel industry. Flow Forming Technology involves the application of pressure to the inner barrel of the wheel while spinning and after it has been cast. This process stretches and compresses the aluminium, which increases tensile strength. In this respect, the process shares similar properties to those found in the forging process. The final product is lighter, stronger, has increased elongation, and much greater shock resistance as well as an increased load capacity over regular cast wheels. Whilst the RF0 wheel shares a similar design concept to our previous generation RV0, the more advanced manufacturing process offered through flow forming allows for more definition in the design, particularly noticeable in the spokes and rim edge fillets. By reducing the weight of your wheels 'unsprung weight' your suspension starts to have a much easier time. Each bump can be controlled more quickly and easily. ADDITIONAL FEATURES COLD START PROTECTION FEATURE For engine oil to work effectively and lubricate your engine it needs time to warm up. When you first start your car, the cold oil is at its thickest, producing higher oil pressure when pumped around the engine putting extra pressure on oil seals. As the engine temperature increases, so do the oil temperature. This thins the oil, enabling it to run more freely and better lubricate the moving parts of your engine. Cold Start Protection helps protect engine components by limiting turbo boost until the oil temperature increases and reaches optimum operating levels. Oil below 70ºC: Boost limited Oil above 70ºC: Full boost available TEMPERATURE PROTECTION Testing indicated that in high-temperature conditions (rolling road, high ambient temps, and prolonged Vmax use) oil temperatures can climb to an undesirable level. OPEN CONE INTAKE The Revo open cone Air Intake System for the 2.0T Gen3 engine improves performance and offers an aggressive intake sound. Ensuring your engine can get access to enough air is paramount when increasing power; more air means more power throughout the rev-range. Only Revo Air Intake Systems are specifically designed to work in harmony with your vehicle and Revo ECU Software. Engineered to directly replace the stock airbox, pipework and filter, this kit comes complete with a silicone hose, aluminium pipe, heat shield, filter, machined turbo coupler and fitting kit. The Revo Air Intake System removes these restrictive elements promoting smoother airflow. Open Cone systems replace the OEM air box to make space for the heat shield, filter and silicone hose which joins directly to the turbo. Revo Flush Fit silicone hoses avoid unwanted turbulence at joins, and increase the rate at which air can flow ensuring maximum performance at any level of tuning. SILICONE HOSE The Revo silicone hose as an increased inner diameter that gradually tapers from hard pipe to turbo to optimise airflow. Designed to directly replace the plastic hose and turbo elbow, this upgrade reduces restriction and maximises smooth airflow improving both power and torque throughout the rev range. A machined billet bung is integrated into the hose, connecting the stock PCV system vacuum. TURBO INLET The Revo machined inlet replaces the restrictive elbow found on the IS20/IS38 turbos. The billet aluminium inlet securely fits the OE unit using locking tabs and integrated O-rings. With almost double the cross-sectional area compared to other available products, air can stabilise and distribute before a smooth tapered transition to the turbo. Removing the internal steps between components further ensures uninterrupted airflow and removes any unnecessary turbulence. HEATSHIELD Ensuring the engine has access to cold air is vital for performance. The Revo heat shield channels cold air from the front intake duct while partitioning the filter from the heat of the engine bay. The Revo Heatshield uses the stock mounting points to provide easy and secure installation. FILTER An intake system is only as good as the filter. This kit comes complete with a custom Revo foam filter, supported by galvanised epoxy-coated mesh for strength under load. Revo three-stage foam filters work very differently to conventional paper or cotton-gauze alternatives designed to trap particles on the outer layer. Revo filters trap debris and particles within the foam layers, allowing air to still navigate through. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT All Revo products are designed in-house and are rigorously tested utilising an in-house 3D printer, latest CAD and CFD programs, hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The Revo intake allows the turbo to run more efficiently, intake a larger volume of air and minimise turbulence to increase both power and torque, as highlighted during controlled dyno testing. PERFORMANCE DATA Back-to-back testing of the stock air intake system and the Revo kit were carried out. Fitted to an Audi S3 (310PS Model) with Revo ECU Software, Revo Intercooler, Revo Charge & Throttle Pipes and Revo Downpipe. The results show improvement throughout the whole rev range. The Revo intake offering an average gain of +12WHP, and +18NM torque over the stock part. Increased airflow also delivers impressive peak performance gains of +19.4BHP @6000rpm and +55NM @2400RPM over the stock intake system. AIRFLOW To evaluate the efficiency, the Revo Intake was tested for inlet charge pressure and mass airflow. Boost pressure was measured and an increase in charge pressure was seen across the top end of the RPM range, as detailed in the dyno graph. Intake mass airflow logging showed similar results to the charge pressure, showing considerable increases at the top of the RPM range. REVO AIR INTERCOOLER MQB 1.8/2.0 TSI EA888 GEN3 The Revo Intercooler utilises unique design features to lower intake air temperatures, minimise pressure drop and allow the engine to produce impressive power and torque with Revo Software. The unique end tank profile promotes internal laminar flow by decreasing turbulence and increasing airspeed into the bar and plate core. This enhances charge air cooling giving you access to more power throughout the rev range. The limitations of the stock intercooler were apparent throughout testing. The stock part consistently struggled to manage charge air temperatures, even under normal driving conditions. The Revo Intercooler has been designed to improve on every restrictive element of the stock cooler, enhancing cooling efficiency by lowering intake air temperatures by up to 36ºC vs. the MQB Golf R intercooler, allowing you to drive harder, for longer. Designed from the ground up, the Revo Intercooler has much larger core volume than the OEM part and offers perfect fitment, improving cooling by utilising the full volume of the stock location space as well as cold ambient air from the front of the vehicle. END TANK DESIGN The stock end tanks are inefficiently designed and create turbulent air in corners. These sections create a natural flow distribution but slow charge air and increase pressure drop. The Revo end tank geometry maintains the largest possible cross-sectional flow area to and from the core. Coupled with a cast interior surface finish, the Revo end tanks allow air to flow freely without obstructions from turbulent air pockets found in the OE intercooler. End tanks play an important part in maintaining pressure and work in harmony with the core to promote airflow, the Revo end tanks are designed to offer the optimal balance between both of these key features. BAR AND PLATE CORE Designed with a bar and plate core to maximise the efficiency of heat transfer, the pressure drop is also controlled as the air meets less resistance compared to that of a tube and fin alternative. The Revo Intercooler also features carefully specified fin geometry to maximise cooling properties while minimising flow restriction. The ambient core side utilises louvred fins to slow ambient air flow which improves heat transfer, while the charge core side features an offset internal fin design to balance surface area and air resistance to minimise pressure drop. SILICONE HOSES Supplied with stronger oil resistant silicone hoses, the Revo Intercooler can be installed using the stock pipework or recommended Revo Intercooler pipework. The internal diameter of each silicone is precisely matched to the outer diameter of the ribbed inlet and outlet connections along with a unique Flush Fit design, allowing a smooth transition between components. BRACKETS To ensures precision fitment, Only Revo offers a CNC machined bracket system. Produced to a superior tolerance than that of a cast mounting system, this unique feature also ensures that the supporting brackets are strong and less prone to failure. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT All Revo products are designed in-house using the latest 3D printing technology, CAD and CFD software. Every product is rigorously tested utilising an in-house Hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The Revo intercooler minimises turbulence while maximising heat transfer, promoting cooler air temperatures and low-pressure drop. This helps retains power and torque throughout of the rev range as highlighted during controlled Dyno testing. The Revo Intercooler was tested in-house to compare the performance against that of the stock Intercooler. First tested on a vehicle running the OEM Intercooler with Revo Stage 2 software, a Revo air intake system and Milltek downpipe, the Revo Intercooler was then installed and tested in the same controlled environment to highlight the benefits of enhanced cooling. PERFORMANCE DATA Golf GTI with Revo Stage 2 Software, Golf R intercooler and Carbon Series Front Scoop Showing the last of five consecutive dyno runs, the efficiency of the Revo Intercooler over the OEM Golf R intercooler is highlighted. With max gains of +10 HP & +20NM Torque, along with increased performance throughout the entire rev range, the stock intercooler struggles to effectively function in comparison to the Revo Intercooler which remained consistent throughout, losing just 2% peak power over the 5 runs compared to 5% on the stock cooler. INLET TEMPERATURE This is a metric used to confirm that testing on the Revo MQB Intercooler. This is used to show that the air temperatures going into the intercooler were similar for each test, confirming that outlet temperatures shown in the following graphs are purely down to differences in intercooler design/construction. As can be seen, the inlet temperatures during testing were hotter on the Revo Intercooler, yet the Revo intercooler produced the lower outlet temps proving the cooling efficiency. OUTLET TEMPERETURE This graph illustrates the increased cooling performance of the Revo intercooler vs OEM Golf R intercooler over all five runs.
